221 years. That’s how long Cheshire Academy has been here in historic Cheshire, near the coast of Connecticut, providing an inclusive, student-centered education for scholars from around the globe. As the Academy’s 33rd Head of School, it is my privilege to join this storied institution at a time of outstanding rigor and growth.
When I first visited the Academy, I was struck by how closely the values of this community aligned with my own. Cheshire Academy fosters a lifelong love of learning, and encourages students to achieve personal success while still understanding the value of teamwork. At the Academy, students are encouraged to be curious, to explore and experience new things in order to make meaningful contributions to the world at large. These strengths allows students to lead richer and more fulfilling lives.
Enrollment is at its strongest in recent history, and the Academy opens its doors again this year to a diverse and qualified student body. We continue to offer the student-centered programs that support our mission, including the IB program, Roxbury Academic Support, and the Art Major program, while also launching our new 1:1 iPad initiative. In addition, the Academy looks forward to another successful year of athletics after celebrating four championship-winning teams last year and sending nearly a third of our graduating seniors off to compete in college athletics.
Of course, we credit these achievements to our talented student body made up of budding artists, dedicated athletes, and committed scholars, activists, entrepreneurs and inventors. The truth is, our students’ interests are as diverse and unique as they are, and it is our mission at Cheshire Academy to meet our students where they are and take them beyond what they imagined possible. We accomplish this with the fine work of our outstanding faculty, supportive and rigorous academics, immersive afternoon programs, and vibrant residential life experience.
Get to know this unique community. Schedule a visit with the admission office if you are interested in applying to Cheshire Academy. Attend one of our Open House events for glimpse of life here at the Academy and the student-centered experience. We look forward to sharing our school with you.
If you’re already a member of the community, make time to come back to campus for a personal visit or attend one of our many events. Keep us updated on your milestones in life through Class Notes and stay in touch with us; we welcome your stories and memories about life at Cheshire Academy.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and discovering what you value most about Cheshire Academy.
