The Connecticut Flute Orchestra premiered “A Leaf’s Journey,” an original composition produced by Grace Sun ’19, at The “Mostly Connecticut” Concert.
Sun was the only high school student featured in the concert, which took place on Sept. 16 at Wesleyan University. The program also featured music by accomplished Connecticut composers, including Thomas Duffy of Yale University and Neely Bruce of Wesleyan.
Sun wrote her composition for all instruments in the flute choir, which includes the commonly known C flute, but also more unusual varieties of flute, including piccolo, alto flute and bass flute.

Sun said she became interested in music composition when she took the International Baccalaureate Music class last year. The high-level IB music class requires students to create two original compositions, in addition to giving a solo recital and taking a written exam. Sun is planning to study music composition and criminal psychology in college.
