By Athletic Trainer Shelby Pocius

Cheshire Academy Head Athletic Trainer Jennifer Tirillo is being honored on April 17, 2017 with the Charles J. Redmond Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award was established in 1998 in honor of Charlie Redmond. He began his athletic training career at Springfield College in 1977, and worked at the College until his retirement in 2015. Redmond served as the head athletic trainer, program director, clinical coordinator, department chair, and Dean at various points during his career. Redmond was also inducted into the Springfield College Athletics Hall of Fame and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame.

The award is intended to promote his legacy by recognizing alumni who have stayed true to the Springfield College mission and advanced the profession of athletic training. This award is given to someone who has promoted, enhanced, and advanced the profession of athletic training through their diligent work as an athletic trainer, educator, and administrator.

Jenn graduated Springfield College in 2004 with Magna Cum Laude Honors. Upon graduation, she worked in Newington, Connecticut at a clinic-outreach program. In 2007, she began working at Cheshire Academy as the head athletic trainer. She has taught anatomy and physiology and science of nutrition at the Academy, and since 2008, has been sharing her knowledge and experiences with Quinnipiac University athletic training students. She also holds the following certifications; Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, 200RYT Yoga Instructor, and Graston Technique Provider.

In addition, Tirillo started with the NEPSAC Sports Medicine Advisor Committee in 2012 as the district representative and then moved to vice chair in 2013. She currently holds the chair position. As a member of the committee, she works with various healthcare professionals to create new policies and procedures for NEPSAC schools to follow to make sure athletes remain safe.

Jenn has dedicated her career to promoting the athletic training profession and to caring for her athletes. Cheshire Academy is grateful and fortunate to have an individual like Jenn as a member of the community.
